Public Works

The City of Oak Hill Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining city infrastructure and ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient public spaces for residents and visitors. The department coordinates daily operations that support transportation, drainage, sanitation, and community spaces throughout the city.

Through routine maintenance, emergency response, and long-term improvements, Public Works plays a key role in keeping Oak Hill’s streets, parks, and public facilities clean, safe, and functional year-round.

Department Responsibilities

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping helps improve water quality by keeping debris and litter out of gutters and storm drains.

Grass Maintenance

Selected rights-of-way, public roads, alleys, and sidewalks are maintained to prevent overgrowth of grass, weeds, and debris.

Tree Maintenance

City crews prune or remove trees that pose a hazard to the public, including dead or diseased trees, low-hanging limbs, or storm-damaged branches.

Snow Removal

Public Works plows and treats major roads and residential streets during winter weather. Salt is applied for ice control. Schools and privately owned roads and parking lots are not maintained by city crews.

Storm Drain Maintenance

Routine inspection and maintenance of storm drains helps support proper stormwater drainage and reduces flooding risks.

Parks and Rail Trail Management

Public Works performs maintenance and upkeep of city parks and the White Oak Rail Trail to ensure these spaces remain clean, safe, and accessible for public use.
