Needleseye Rock Climbing/Bouldering

Needleseye Park is rapidly emerging as a premier destination for vertical adventure, boasting a one-mile-long cliff line and abundant boulders that make it an exceptional resource for climbing and bouldering in the New River Gorge area.

The Climbing Experience

  • Vast Potential: The park features a tremendous amount of exposed rock, with both high cliffs for traditional and sport climbing (as routes are developed) and an extensive bouldering field known for its variety of problems.
  • Unique Geology: The rock formations are distinct, offering overhangs, and cracks that appeal to climbers seeking new challenges away from the more established New River Gorge main walls.
  • Accessibility: Climbers can easily access the main rock formations, including the namesake Needleseye and the nearby Lion's Den, via the park's primary trail system.

Policy for Route Setters

This unique opportunity for development requires a commitment to safety and conservation. Any climber intending to develop a route must adhere to the official park guidelines:

  • Adherence to Guidelines: All development must follow the standards set forth in the Needleseye Park Climbing Management Plan.
  • Mandatory Agreement: Route setters must electronically sign the official agreement before beginning any work. By signing, you commit to acting responsibly and following all development guidelines.
