Description
The City of Oak Hill is hiring for a vacancy for its GIS Coordinator position. The GIS Coordinator will be tasked with the daily operation of the city’s cloud enterprise GIS program and mapping duties for all municipal departments and city officials. The position will work directly under the City Manager, but coordinate efforts with staff from every municipal department.
The ideal candidate for this position should have a strong understanding of geography, cartography, and geographic information systems, along with working experience in state, county, or local government. The ideal candidate will be expected to complete projects in the office and field, leverage data from city, county, and state sources, and develop products for staff, officials, and the general public to consume. The ideal candidate will also identify and leverage new software or methods to address challenges faced by the city. The ideal candidate must have good self-management skills and be detail-oriented, responsible, and organized. Good communication skills are a must, as this position requires working closely with the city administration, field staff, and other non-GIS professionals to develop useful applications that enhance existing workflows or create new ones.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience in the range of $50,000 to $60,000. Health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits are provided.
Responsibilities
- Provide mapping and GIS support to all municipal departments
- Provide mapping and GIS support to city officials, boards, and committees
- Coordinate multiple simultaneous projects from all municipal departments with various levels of priority
- Manage the city’s ArcGIS Online organization and Open Data website
- Manage existing (and create new) automated workflow processes using Integromat (now Make) cloud-based automation platform.
- Produce monthly City Council Meeting Story Maps
- Develop and present maps through paper (large plotter and standard printer) and digital formats
- Independently troubleshoot software and hardware issues that may arise
- Train staff to utilize GIS solutions in the field and office
- Present maps and/or data at public meetings, if necessary
- Scan, georeference, and digitize historical paper maps and documents
- Develop and follow a city-wide GIS Strategic Plan
- Provide regular updates on status and needs of city’s GIS
- Conduct field data collection using ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, and high-accuracy GPS/GNSS systems
- Develop and enhance GIS solutions to existing workflows through communication, investigation, and development of GIS app integrations
- Provide user support for existing GIS application programs
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in geography, computer science, engineering, or a related field from an accredited four-year institution with at least 15 semester hours or equivalent coursework in GIS
- Five years of relevant GIS work experience (may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree)
- Have working experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Online software, including shapefile, geodatabase, and hosted feature layer data types
- Have working experience with Microsoft Office software suite
- Strong IT skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Five to eight years of relevant work experience
- Experience in state, county, or local government
- GISP (Certified GIS Professional) Certification from the GIS Certification Institute
- Have working experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Dashboards, Story Maps, Community/Business Analyst, and ArcGIS mobile applications such as ArcGIS Workforce, ArcGIS Survey123, and ArcGIS Field Maps
- Have working experience with workflow automation platforms such as Microsoft Power Automate or Integromat (now Make)
- Able to utilize ArcGIS Solutions for Local Government
- Able to provide basic training of ArcGIS mobile applications to city staff
- Able to have a flexible schedule including attending evening meetings
- Able to write RFPs, grant proposals, and understand GIS contract management
- Able to understand municipal codified ordinances and how to utilize them within GIS
